Fire Station Cell Site Design
Ladue, Missouri
Ladue's planning and zoning requirements on
installation of new wireless telecommunication facilities are
one of the strictest in the nation. In light of this fact, installation
of this particular PCS carrier Base Station and antennas in the
old Ladue Fire Station created a great design challenge.
Due to the lack of space inside the ground floor
of the Fire Station, the Base Station had to be installed in
the attic. SSC's structural engineers utilized the two existing
structural steel beams in the attic and designed a structural
steel platform that was supported by the existing structural
steel beams to carry the several thousand pounds load of the
Base Station equipment.
The next challenge was to install the antennas
in the existing cupola. There was neither access nor space to
install the antennas in this old and decorative cupola. SSC came
up with the idea of replacing the existing cupola with one that
is fabricated similar in shape to the existing cupola; however,
it was completely made out of fiberglass-reinforced plastic that
was radio frequency (RF) transparent. An access was cut in the
concrete deck of the cupola, an OSHA approved access ladder was
installed and the antennas were installed behind the lead free
glass cupola windows.
